Experience

Katrina has been working with adults, couples, groups, children and families for over 15 years.

She trained in Perth, Western Australia and worked in a variety of settings (employee assistance, charitable counselling agencies, police service, university counselling centres) until moving to Melbourne to take up a post with the Victoria Police Force as one of the Police Psychologists.

She subsequently left that post to emigrate to England and settled in Bristol in 2001, moving to Kingston Upon Thames in 2008.

During her time in the UK, Katrina has worked in several different settings:

  • community-based support programme for bereaved children and families
  • a Senior University Lecturer on a Counselling Psychology Programme
  • an NHS Occupational Health Service

Katrina has been in private practice since 2004, initially in Bristol and latterly in Kingston Upon Thames.

Katrina’s approach to her clinical work is integrative, being influenced by cognitive behavioural, gestalt and systemic theories. She has a particular interest in post-traumatic stress, stress & anxiety problems, and bereavement.

Katrina has worked successfully with clients who have presented with issues as diverse as:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Traumatic incidents
  • Anxiety / Panic Attacks
  • Family and parenting issues
  • Depression
  • Domestic violence
  • Work-related issues
  • Illness or disability adjustment
  • Low self esteem

Katrina is also an experienced EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) practitioner (Level 1). EMDR is a psychotherapeutic treatment developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in 1987. EMDR is used successfully to treat clients who have experienced traumatic events and have traumatic memories and other symptoms.
